octopus and fruits you've never heard of

the official news has come. on august 1st my darling husband and i will be moving to japan.

we received word [at last!] that we have been accepted into an exceptional teaching program that will cast us out of portland and into some yet unknown village in the japanese countryside.

here is what we will eat.

time passes. it's may now and i have not yet divulged my true intentions for this space. in short, it started as a place to talk about food - a place to share thoughts, recipes, photos and reviews of all the culinary bounty the world has to offer. more specifically, i hoped to chronicle here the ways in which everything i know and love about growing things, cooking, eating, and drinking will all be swept away at once as nat and i embark on a new adventure abroad in august.

and then. today as prepared to write this post, i realized how much more there is in our lives to share. nat and i have had several small but delightful adventures these last six weeks - unlikely sports fanaticism, a surprise vacation to the coast, and miraculous spring days in rain city, among others. so upon further consideration, i think i will not limit this blog to a discussion of food, though it will certainly be featured regularly, and instead leave it open to whatever i happen across that may be of interest to my friends and family reading from afar.

so here's an update. spring has sprung, and boy has it been good.
